The early months of the New Year have flown by and March has now arrived. Later this month Spring shall be upon as. And so, before the weather begins to change we thought that it would be a lovely time to follow on from our last update earlier this year to share more about life at the Château and the progress of the restoration work.
Since our last update the snow has melted, though the mornings at the Château continue to be filled with mist and mystery and the kitchen remains a refuge for the animals from the cold of the day...
Upstairs, the reclaimed, Versailles parquetry that was installed just before Christmas has since been oiled and waxed. The final priming and painting of the bedrooms has been finished and missing baseboards and doorframes have been replaced.
Two bedrooms in the Medieval section are almost entirely finished, except for some decorative painted frescoes which we hope will be added to the walls later in the year. These frescoes will be painted by a specialised restorer. Furnishings and fittings now dress the room and we await the arrival of bedside table lamps as the finishing touch…
We are very excited that the bedrooms shall hopefully be close to finished by the summertime when we will be reopening the Château to welcome guests. And it is with great excitement that we await for the return of life to the Château once again...
Meanwhile, outside with the lushness and greenery having fallen away to reveal just twigs and branches it has been the perfect time to prune and preen the garden. Unruly trees growing within the outer stone walls have been carefully extracted, trees have been trimmed and weeds have been removed...
And this week, we began planting our yearly perennial garden to fill the upper garden terraces with an abundance of blossoming flowers through Spring and Summer...
And so this story draws to a close. Our latest update has been short and sweet but we sincerely hope that you have enjoyed reading about the most recent progress of the work. We look forward to reaching out again soon as the restoration continues to progress.
In the meantime, we are wishing you all the very best for keeping safe and sound.
With our warmest wishes,
Karina, Jasmine and the Château Family x
