Bienvenue
Château de Gudanes stands on a hilltop in the French Pyrénées, her neoclassical façade looking out over valleys and mountains that shift with every season — soft spring haze, high summer light, the deep quiet of a mountain winter.
She was designed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel, principal architect to King Louis XV and the man behind Queen Marie Antoinette’s own Petit Trianon at Versailles. That royal connection carries through today: Château de Gudanes holds the same Class I Historic Monument classification as the Palace of Versailles and the Eiffel Tower.
Since 2013, we have been bringing her back to life, room by room — clearing rubble, uncovering frescoes hidden for generations beneath later paint, and working alongside France’s Monuments Historiques at every step. She is not finished, and she may never be. But she is lived in, worked on, and open to those who want to stay inside the story rather than simply read about it.
And so, you are warmly invited to explore the rooms, the grounds, and the restoration itself — and to discover what it means to stay somewhere still becoming what it will be.
